True Mother Honors Efforts to Connect Nations

In the history of restoration, we are keenly aware that this is a chance for Korea and Japan as the parent nations to fulfill their responsibilities in front of True Parents and humankind. It is my earnest hope that here in Karatsu, at the Korea–Japan Tunnel site, Heaven can work directly with your children who have worked so earnestly until now to accomplish your wish.

Today, throughout the world, reality seems dark, unpredictable and devoid of hope for the future. Once again, I deeply offer thanks and give you the glory. Only we… the Family Federation, which knows and attends the True Parents, is the hope for the future of humankind. They are your only children. They are the only ones who can realize Heaven’s wish.

Chairman Song’s speech

I would like to express my deep respect for the hard work and devotion of the members for True Parents. After True Mother finished her eight-day special tour of devotion in Japan as soon as she arrived in Korea, she called the Korean and Japanese leaders to a meeting at Cheon Jeong Gung about the actualization of the Korea–Japan undersea tunnel. She said, “The parent nations, Korea and Japan, must become one. If the parent nations do not stand in front of the world, no path exists to solving the world’s confusion today.” Through endless communication with Heavenly Parent and True Father and deep prayer and devotion, True Mother told the Korean and Japanese leaders, “I must go to Karatsu; let's go to Karatsu together.” True Mother accompanied the Korean and Japanese leaders involved with the tunnel and on November 14 inspected the Karatsu site of the Korean–Japan Undersea Tunnel. Through the four days of True Mother's visit, what my family felt deeply was True Mother's heart of filial piety toward Heavenly Parent and True Father. The weather reports predicted it would rain the whole day, and from the morning, the rain poured down. I worried about whether the Karatsu event, which was to be held outside would go well, but True Mother said, “Don't worry at all.” As we drove to Karatsu, she asked Sun Jin nim and me, who were in the car with her, to sing “You are my Sunshine” together. In that moment, I remembered that time with True Father when a rainstorm came during the Yankee stadium rally. In the car, True Mother, Sun Jin nim and I sang, “You are my Sunshine” loudly, expressing our hearts of hyo jeong [filial piety] toward our Heavenly Parent, until we arrived at the Karatsu site. Our Heavenly Parent answered True Mother's song imbued with hyo jeong. Astonishingly, as soon as True Mother arrived at the site of the event, the rain, which had been pouring heavily, stopped. Just like the miracle at Yankee Stadium, a remarkable miracle occurred there. Likewise, many of the regional leaders and members who had attended the event, later testified that they had seen True Father accompanying True Mother. True Mother, who is leading us, is not alone. She is always with our Heavenly Parent and True Father. More than anyone else, True Mother lives a life of hyo jeong toward Heavenly Parent and True Father.

True Mother is the true owner of Japan, the mother nation, and she is the True Mother of humankind. Let us engrave in our hearts once again that True Mother is the great True Teacher who will guide the confused world to be a true world of peace; she is the True Parent, and True Parents will realize one human family under God. Let us become blessed families that can be proud of and testify confidentially about our True Parents in front of our clan and all people. Let us emulate True Mother's substantial faith and the substantial faith of the Family Federation, inherit True Mother's strong belief in regard to the providence and the tradition of True Mother's heart of hyo jeong toward our Heavenly Parent, and absolutely be victorious during the one-hundred-and twenty-day special course until the fourth Foundation Day.

I would like to express my gratitude to True Parents for True Parents' inspection of the Korea–Japan Tunnel Incline site. This inspection on the thirtieth anniversary of the ground breaking in October 1986 has been a great comfort and blessing to those involved in the Korea–Japan tunnel. I believe there are three things necessary to the Korea–Japan tunnel. First, unlike the Seikan tunnel, or others like it, the Korea–Japan tunnel has the difficult challenge of going beyond national borders, of overcoming the barriers of race and nationality and the barrier of only looking for the benefit of ones' own country. The primary problem is that the national sentiment between Korea and Japan must be good. Second, there needs to be an agreement between the leaders of both nations about the actualization of the Korea–Japan tunnel. At a summit meeting in 1986, Prime Minister Thatcher of England and President Mitterrand of France came to an agreement about the construction of the Channel Tunnel. Both nations, England and France, signed the Treaty of Canterbury, pledging not to go to war with each other ever again and began the construction of the undersea tunnel soon after that. Eight years later, the tunnel opened. The third problem is technology and budget. From the construction of the Seikan Tunnel, which connects Shikoku and Honshu, Japan has the experience and technical skills to construct the undersea tunnel. Korea also, through many projects has gained highly advanced construction skills. If the nations cooperate, constructing the Korea–Japan tunnel absolutely is possible. The estimated cost of constructing the tunnel is at least \10 trillion [$87 billion]. Thus, the Korea–Japan tunnel must develop as a national project. I believe that the cooperation of the two nations during the upcoming Olympics will be the fair wind that pushes forward the Korea–Japan Tunnel. After the 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics becomes a great success with Japan’s complete cooperation, and likewise, after the great success of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with Korea’s complete cooperation, by 2020 the sentiment between Korea and Japan will have greatly improved. Once the Korea–Japan tunnel begins in earnest, construction will take at least ten years. On the foundation of deep trust between Korea and Japan, a summit meeting between their leaders could happen by 2020, and if they reach an agreement, the tunnel could reach completion as early as 2030. We reported this to True Mother, who replied, “It can be done earlier than that.” She expects great things from us. Let's achieve with our own hands, our Heavenly Parent’s and True Parents' dream, the Korea–Japan tunnel, and reach the goal of the creation of the international highway.
